Kālikā

$0.00

In Hindu mythology, Kāli (from Sanskrit Kāl, meaning time) represents female energy transcending time and form. Fierce and strong, Kāli destroys evil to protect the good. Depicted in dark blue-black skin, she personifies female empowerment.
I find Kāli a fascinating enigma. On the one hand she represents fertility, birth, and creativity. But on the other, equally, if not more so, martial prowess, anger and destruction. She also breaks the deadlock of ‘fair is beautiful’ a reductive and horrendously stigmatizing stereotype prevalent in several cultures worldwide.
This painting is my ode to women, and I’ve channelled Kāli. Time and again, women create and nurture, but when provoked, we fight back, and we can destroy - as we should. Our rights, our bodies, our voices, our dreams, and our ambitions, we own them all. They belong to no one but us.

My latest collection, Roots and Branches is rooted in India, but shaped by my life in NYC.

AVAILABLE - Kālikā (2024) . 24” x 20”. Acrylic and Metal Leaf on Canvas
